What’s the Difference Between Standard Oil and Synthetic Oil?

Well, for starters the term Synthetic, is a bit of a misnomer. The reason I say that is
synthetic oil is not 100% man made in a lab somewhere from scratch, while it is most
certainly created in a lab. Check out this quote from https://mobiloil.com/en/article/car-maintenance/learn-about-motor-oil-facts/synthetic-oil-vs-conventional-oil:
“Synthetic oil is derived from the same place all oil is found, which is in the ground. A good way to think about Synthetic Oil, is more along the lines of super refined oil. Synthetic oil is not only refined but also distilled, purified and broken down into its basic molecules. This process not only removes more impurities from the crude oil, but also enables individual molecules in the oil to be tailored to the demands of modern engines. These customized molecules provide higher levels of protection and performance than conventional oils. While there are no firm industry definitions, full synthetic motor oils typically use the highest quality base oil combination as a starting point. Synthetic blend motor oils will typically be either a blend of high- quality and lower- quality conventional base oils or all high- quality (higher than conventional) base oils. But the synthetic base oil is only half the story. The correct blend of additives must go into the mix to create the oil.”
In other words, synthetic is simply better. It lasts longer, it maintains against viscosity,
and won’t get burnt or burnt out as quickly. It is the optimum oil that the scientists at all the oil
companies can come up with to ensure your car is better protected. So, knowing all of that,
why would any one still use the standard oil? Price mostly, after all those scientists and extra
removing of impurities comes at what some consider a rather hefty jump in price, or so they
think. See, standard oil lasts 5000, whereas synthetic lasts closer to 10,000 miles in optimum
driving conditions. So as the saying goes, “You get what you pay for.”
Hopefully, this article clears up some of the confusion about what sorts of motor oil to put
in your car. We at Mobile Lube SF, charge one flat rate for all oil changes no matter which
sort of oil you need in your car. Remember the difference is, we come to you! San
